Spartans dazzle at SA Martial Arts Championships

On 4 October, the Midvaal-based Spartans Taekwon-Do team brought home an impressive haul of 3 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze medals at the national championships.

Congratulations to all Spartans for their dedication, discipline, and spirit, truly living the motto: “In All Things Prepared.”

Founded in 2020 in Henley on Klip, Spartans Taekwon-Do was established to provide a safe, disciplined, and empowering space for children, teens, and families to learn authentic Taekwon-Do. The slogan, “In All Things Prepared”, reflects a commitment to readiness- not only in martial arts, but also in life skills, confidence, and personal safety.

Spartans Taekwon-Do is affiliated with the International Taekwon-Do Federation of South Africa (ITFSA), operating under SASCOC and MASA standards. Training focuses on building confidence, respect, and discipline through traditional Taekwon-Do, while also equipping students with anti-bullying and self-defense skills for real-world safety.

The club provides a family-friendly environment where all ages train together and participates in community outreach programs addressing anti-gender-based violence, self-defense, and youth empowerment.

Clayton Campbell, chief instructor at Spartans Taekwon-Do, said: “Spartans was founded to empower students not just in martial arts, but in life. Every medal earned reflects hours of dedication, discipline, and the courage to push beyond limits.”

Spartans was designed to be more than just another martial arts club. It provides local youth and families access to affordable, high-quality martial arts training, while fostering resilience, leadership, and personal growth. The club also offers opportunities for students to grade, compete, and represent their community with pride.

This year, Spartans reached beyond the dojang with significant community impact. Approximately 380 children participated in anti-bullying and anti-gender-based violence workshops, and more than 300 women received training in self-defense and anti-gender-based violence initiatives across various communities.

At the South African Championships, Spartans athletes earned a total of 42 medals, including 13 gold, 21 silver, and 8 bronze. Students successfully graded and showcased their skills in tournaments, workshops, and community events, strengthening both martial arts ability and character.

Their training takes place at the Henley on Klip Bowling Club, with sessions from 5pm to 6pm for children and beginners, and 6:05pm to 7:15pm for teens and advanced students. For more information, WhatsApp 065 845 0161.
