Several suspects arrested in De Deur during Operation Basadi XV

A high-impact Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and crime-prevention drive under Operation Basadi XV yielded notable results in the De Deur policing precinct on 19 November. The operation resulted in the arrest of four undocumented Malawian nationals, the closure of an illegal shebeen, two arrests for possession of illicit drugs, and traffic fines totalling R9,100.

SAPS members also conducted a comprehensive door-to-door awareness campaign, distributing approximately 600 pamphlets to residents. The material provided essential information on GBV prevention, reporting mechanisms, and available support services.

The day commenced with a parade at De Deur SAPS, where Constable Zazini of Meyerton SAPS delivered an opening prayer, followed by Constable Nkosi of De Deur SAPS reading the SAPS code of conduct. The operation brought together Women in Blue from various stations across Sedibeng, joined by the Midvaal Traffic Department, the Department of Community Safety, CPF members, local patrollers, and multiple NGOs standing together in the fight against GBV.

Addressing the parade, acting station commander Lt Colonel Bertie Van Der Ryst, underscored the alarming prevalence of GBV within the community. He urged officers to continue educating residents on preventative measures and available support channels, stressing that sustained community engagement is vital in reducing incidents of violence.

Operation Basadi XV forms part of SAPS’s broader festive-season strategy to address both GBV and general criminal activity, while reinforcing partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
