Midvaal Junior Council launches drug rehabilitation programme
To mitigate the spread of drug substance abuse in the community, Midvaal Local Municipality’s Junior Council has launched the Giving Love Back project.
The project will set out to educate the youth on the dangers of drug addiction. Young people who are already addicted will be offered rehabilitation services and empowered on ways to get their lives back on track.
This is a collaboration between the Midvaal Junior Council, the municipality, and various stakeholders in the Social Services sector, such as Showers of Blessing, Lesedi Labatjha, Jamela Rehabilitation Centre, Lifeline Vaal, COGTA (Community Development Workers), Ward Committee Members and Midvaal Community Services.
Midvaal Local Municipality’s Speaker, Cllr Alan Mcloughlin said: “This is the first step in the municipality’s efforts to end the war on drugs and empower those who are addicted to receive the help they need. One of the municipality’s visions is to enable a safe, healthy community and environment. Programmes such as Giving Love Back will ensure that we are able to meet our vision of being a people-centred, compassionate institution.”
