Lt Gen Mawela donates sports equipment to De Deur’s New Hope Secondary
In a concerted effort to create a safe and secure environment at schools within the province, earlier today, Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, in partnership with various stakeholders donated chess boards and sports gear (netball, soccer and chess) to New Hope Secondary School in De Deur.
Lt Gen Mawela was joined by various stakeholders that include Department of Education, Department of Arts and Culture, School Governing Body, Metropolitan (sponsor), Gauteng Community Policing Board, various senior SAPS management, local Community Policing Forum, Sedibeng District Junior Commissioner (learner), Midvaal Local Municipality’s Junior Mayor (learner) and Midvaal’s Executive Mayor, Ald Peter Teixeira.
Delivering the keynote address, Lt Gen Mawela said: “We are hoping that these sports gear and equipment as well as your participation in the various sporting codes will keep learners and teachers occupied. I hope to see improved pass rates, discipline and no drop-outs from all of you. Through participation in sport we can collectively ensure a safer and secure school environment.”
Various stakeholders delivered messages of support during the event which included a message from Metropolitan, Sedibeng Junior District Commissioner and Midvaal Junior Mayor.
