Community comes together for a day of fun and giving at Jackson Informal Settlement

The Eikenhof Jackson Informal Settlement experienced a day full of joy and generosity on Sunday, 11 January, thanks to a group of compassionate organizers, Tammi Ardent of the Zurich Foundation, Amanda Crook, Shoneez Fick, Rene Parker from Child Reach and Lucky Ramoshaba from Kingdom Kids who came together to make a difference in the lives of local children by providing them with much-needed school supplies and a little extra cheer.

The event kicked off promptly at 9:00 AM on the settlement’s soccer field. Children, dressed in their finest clothes, eagerly awaited the arrival of the donors. As soon as Tammi, Amanda, Shoneez, and the rest of the team arrived, the children burst into song, performing a heartfelt “Thank You” song for all those involved. The joy on the faces of the donors was evident as they were overwhelmed by the children’s gratitude.

Each child received a packet containing essential stationery and a sweet treat. While the sweets were eagerly devoured, the stationery brought smiles of excitement, as many of the children expressed how much they would cherish the supplies for school.

After the gifts were distributed, the fun continued with creative face painting sessions, where Tammi, Shoneez, and Amanda showcased their artistic talents, leaving the children with colorful designs. Meanwhile, Lucky and the other men got the boys involved in a lively game of soccer, full of running, laughing, and the occasional tumble. It was clear that everyone was having a blast.

“It was a day filled with smiles, laughter, and a sense of unity,” said Tammi Ardent. “We are so thankful to the community and our donors who made it all possible. We can’t wait to do more for these wonderful kids.”

As the day drew to a close, the children and donors gathered for group photos to capture the memories of this beautiful day. The event was a true testament to the power of kindness and the difference a little giving can make in the lives of others.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Tammi Ardent, the Zurich Foundation, Child Reach, Kingdom Kids, and all those who contributed their time and resources to make this day unforgettable.
