Midvaal Municipality honoured for excellence at PMR.africa awards
On Thursday, 30 January, Midvaal Local Municipality secured top honours at the prestigious PMR.africa Golden Arrow Awards for its efforts in environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and social upliftment.
The awards ceremony held at the Three Rivers Lodge saw the municipality receiving accolades in two key categories, while Executive Mayor, Ald Peter Teixeira was also recognised for his leadership.
The awards were as follows:
- Outstanding – 1st overall winner for municipalities making significant strides in environmental cleanliness and infrastructure development.
- Excellent Award for municipalities excelling in job creation, social upliftment, attracting foreign investment and tourism and combating crime.
- Outstanding – 1st overall award for Pro-active Mayors, awarded to Executive Mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira for his leadership.

Mayor Teixeira highlighted the municipality’s dedication to maintaining high standards in governance, service delivery and innovation, he said:
“These awards are a reflection of our unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents. We will continue striving to set new benchmarks in service excellence.”
The PMR.africa Awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate excellence in various sectors, encouraging higher standards of innovation, ethical governance and professionalism.
Midvaal’s consistent recognition reinforces its position as a leading municipality, setting an example for local governance in South Africa.
Last year, the municipality received several accolades at the South African Local Government Association’s Inaugural Municipal Audit Awards, which included Clean Audit Opinion for 2021/22 Financial Year, Winner for Improved Revenue Collection and Debt Management for 2021/22 Financial Year and award as a First Runner-Up for Good Record Keeping for 2021/22 Financial Year.
