Final salute: Warrant Officer Ncukuthu retires after 37 years of service
On 30 May, Meyerton SAPS bid a heartfelt farewell to Warrant Officer Mxolisi Steven Ncukuthu, who officially retired after 37 years of loyal service in the South African Police Service (SAPS).
W/O Ncukuthu began his policing career in 1988, serving at various stations across the Eastern Cape and later at Thokoza SAPS. He was eventually deployed to Meyerton SAPS, where he worked at the Client Service Centre before moving to the docket store archive. There, he played a vital role in managing reopened and archived dockets with dedication and precision.
“His time management was unmatched. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave,” said Lt/Col Peter Bodibe, applauding Ncukuthu’s discipline and spotless service record.
Support Head Lt/Col Rashaad Dawood Makhene added: “A statesman is dropping the pilot – leaving behind a legacy of unity, strength and wisdom.”
Acting Station Commander Lt/Col Johan De Winnaar described Ncukuthu as a model officer who respected all ranks and performed his duties with passion and diligence. “We release him with pride,” he said, encouraging others to follow the example Ncukuthu set.
The farewell ceremony was led by W/O Giffie van Niekerk as programme director and marked a bittersweet moment for colleagues and the community-a fitting send-off for a respected officer whose service will not be forgotten.
