Suspect arrested after deadly stabbing in Meyerton

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Meyerton has arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place on Wednesday, 24 September, at around 17:30 on the corner of Junius and Loch Street.

The victim, identified only as Sonwabo (23), was reportedly standing near a car wash when an altercation broke out with the suspect, who was armed with a knife and a fibre-plastic stick. Witnesses say the victim, carrying a plastic bag of recycling tins, attempted to retreat. He later produced a knife, at which point the suspect allegedly stabbed him. The victim collapsed on the scene and died from his injuries.

Community members chased the fleeing suspect, who ran in the direction of the Meyerton Police Station. He was arrested shortly thereafter and sustained minor injuries during the pursuit. He received medical attention at the station after an ambulance was called.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear in court soon. Police investigations are ongoing.
