Meyerton police join forces with stakeholders to raise awareness on child abuse and neglect
In a united effort to end violence against children, Meyerton Social Crime Prevention’s Constable Nompumelelo Zazini and Sector Manager Warrant Officer van Heerden partnered with stakeholders Siyabangena and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The awareness campaign was held under the theme “Working Together in Ending Violence Against Children.”
The event took place at Klein Klippies Crèche, where the day began with cheerful songs and a warm welcome from the little ones, including a proud recital of their school anthem.
Constable Zazini expressed admiration for the children, saying: “It’s amazing how our children are so brilliant and well informed about what’s happening around them. Their innocence needs to be protected at all times. It’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure that children live in a safe environment without fear.”
Sector Manager Warrant Officer van Heerden took the time to speak with the children about safety, teaching them to be cautious around heaters and warning them not to play with matches. The FCS Unit also engaged with the children, educating them about their rights and responsibilities in an age-appropriate way.
Meyerton’s Acting Station Commander, Lt/Col Johan De Winnaar, reassured the community that the SAPS remains committed to protecting and serving with pride and dignity. “We urge every citizen to prioritise the safety of children in everything we do. As a community, our actions have a direct impact on the wellbeing of our children ,” said Winnaar.
School Principal Mrs Karen Lamb extended heartfelt thanks to the team for making time to visit and inspire the children.
