2026 SOPA: Savanna City expansion to deliver 18,000 homes
Delivering the 2026 State of the Province Address at NASREC, Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi announced a major new phase of development for Savanna City. He described it as a multi-billion-rand investment set to transform housing delivery and job creation in the province.
Lesufi emphasised the large-scale housing development is entering a new phase that will significantly boost accommodation and employment opportunities in the region.
“We are also excited that Savanna City, a multi-billion-rand development, is entering a new phase of development that will deliver over 18,000 homes and support the accommodation of more than 70,000 residents,” Lesufi said.
According to Lesufi, the project is expected to create more than 54,000 temporary jobs during the construction phase, while generating over 12,000 permanent employment opportunities once completed.
“The development is expected to ease housing pressure in Gauteng, which continues to experience rapid urbanisation and population growth. With over 70,000 residents projected to be accommodated, Savanna City is set to become one of the province’s flagship mixed-use housing projects,” he added.
