MEC Faith Mazibuko marks Mandela Day with hospital visits in the Vaal

Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Faith Mazibuko spent Saturday, 18 July, honouring Nelson Mandela Day by visiting Kopanong District Hospital in Vereeniging and Sebokeng District Hospital, where she donated essential items to new mothers, babies and paediatric patients.

Inspired by Madiba’s legacy of service, Mazibuko handed over baby gowns, fleece blankets, toiletries, ointments, soaps, bath cloths and other essential care items to support mothers and bring comfort to children receiving care in hospital as part of the annual 67 Minutes campaign.

During her visit to Kopanong District Hospital, the MEC urged mothers to ensure their children receive all recommended vaccinations in line with the Road to Health Card. She also highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, saying it provides optimal nutrition, strengthens immunity and supports healthy growth and development.

The Mandela Day programme continued at Sebokeng District Hospital, where Mazibuko spent time with paediatric patients and distributed gowns, fleece blankets and care packs to newborn babies and their mothers.

“Inspired by Madiba’s legacy, I am dedicating this day to bringing comfort and hope to patients and their families. Mandela Day reminds us that every act of kindness matters. I encourage everyone to give back, show compassion and serve humanity,” said Mazibuko.

The visits formed part of the Gauteng Department of Health’s Mandela Day programme, promoting compassion, community service and improved maternal and child healthcare across the province.
