Seven roads upgraded as Midvaal rolls out R22 million tar project

Midvaal Local Municipality officially opened seven newly converted gravel-to-tar roads, reinforcing its commitment to infrastructure development.

The following roads were completed at a cost of R22 million (excluding VAT and professional fees): Takbok, Steenbok, Waterbok, and Bloubok Roads in Highbury, Lorentz Street in Meyerton Extensions, Eben Donges Street in Kookrus, and Willie van der Merwe Street in Riversdale.

The scope of work included site establishment, clearing, grubbing of road reserve and roadbed preparation as well as compaction.

It further included the construction of subbase and base layers, stabilisation and the construction of kerbs and channels.

There was application of prime coat and tack coat, laying of compaction of asphalt surfacing, road markings and traffic signage.

It also involved installing kerbs and drainage, laying the tar surface, and completing the project with road markings and traffic signage to ensure the safety of all road users.

In line with our commitment to creating opportunities and promoting local economic development, the road project created opportunities for twenty-one (21) SMMEs, which were contracted for services such as site establishment, kerbing, backfilling and other logistical support services.

At least eighteen (18) labourers and two Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) were employed during the construction phase of these roads.

Midvaal remains committed to delivering excellent service and will continue investing in infrastructure development to strengthen and improve road networks for the benefit of all residents.
