One killed, four injured in Meyerton tavern shooting
A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened following a shooting incident at a tavern in Sicelo Ext 4, Meyerton in the early hours of Saturday, 7 March.
According to Meyerton SAPS Communication Officer, Nompumelelo Zazini, three unknown African males wearing blankets entered the tavern while patrons were sitting and drinking and began firing randomly.
“Five people were shot during the attack, one victim sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and died at the scene, while the others were rushed to Kopanong Hospital with gunshot wounds to the stomach, leg and upper chest.,” she said.
Police recovered seven empty cartridges at the scene. The deceased’s body was transported to Sebokeng Mortuary by Forensic Services.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made. Police investigations are continuing.
