Walkerville boxing duo punch their way into GSport Awards spotlight

Two local boxing powerhouses are in the running for national recognition after manager Colleen McAusland and boxer Simangele “Smash” Hadebe were named finalists in the 2026 GSport Awards.

McAusland has been shortlisted in the Woman of the Year category, while Hadebe is a finalist in the African Woman in Sport category.

Their nominations shine a spotlight on more than just success in the ring. They celebrate years of dedication, sacrifice and the powerful role both women continue to play in growing women’s boxing and inspiring the next generation.

As manager of Madfit Boxing Club, McAusland has become a driving force behind female boxing in South Africa. She has helped guide athletes to national, African and international success, while creating space for women to rise in a sport long dominated by men.

Her impact reaches far beyond competition. Through boxing, McAusland has helped vulnerable girls rebuild confidence, find discipline and believe in their own strength.

Hadebe, known to many as Smash, has become one of South Africa’s most respected female boxers. A three-time African champion and reigning South African champion, she has proudly carried the country’s flag on the international stage and continues to inspire young athletes with her grit, talent and commitment to giving back.

The GSport Awards honour women who are breaking barriers, changing the game and advancing women’s sport across South Africa and the African continent.

Members of the public can help McAusland and Hadebe bring the awards home by voting before 10 July at www.gsport.co.za/voting.

Their nominations are a proud moment for the community and a reminder that champions are not only made under bright lights, but in local gyms where passion, purpose and hard work come together.
