Midvaal investigates underground water concerns in Walkers Fruit Farms

The MMC for Public Safety and Roads, Cllr Chantal Gomes, conducted an oversight visit in the Walkers Fruit Farms area on Friday, accompanied by officials from the Roads and Stormwater teams.

The visit followed concerns raised by residents regarding underground water that is reportedly affecting properties in the area.

During the inspection, the MMC and municipal teams assessed the affected areas to gain a clearer understanding of the extent of the problem and the possible impact on surrounding properties and infrastructure.

Cllr Gomes said the municipality was taking the concerns raised by residents seriously.

“We understand the concerns raised by residents regarding the underground water affecting properties in Walkers Fruit Farms. This oversight visit allowed us to assess the situation on the ground alongside our Roads and Stormwater teams. Our focus now is on understanding the extent and cause of the problem so that we can identify practical and sustainable solutions,” said Gomes.

The oversight visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the municipality to investigate the matter and determine practical solutions that can be implemented going forward.

Engaging directly with affected areas allows municipal officials to assess conditions on the ground and better understand the challenges being experienced by residents.

The Roads and Stormwater teams will continue working to establish the cause and extent of the underground water issue while considering appropriate interventions.

“We remain committed to engaging with our communities and addressing infrastructure concerns as effectively as possible,” Gomes added.

The visit highlights the municipality’s commitment to responding to residents’ concerns and ensuring that infrastructure-related challenges are investigated and addressed.
