Johan Heyns Gateway Clinic officially opens in Vanderbijlpark

Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Faith Mazibuko and Emfuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Hassan Mako officially opened the newly built Johan Heyns Gateway Clinic on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

Located at the corner of Frikkie Meyer and Pasteur Boulevard, the facility is already operational, offering primary healthcare services from Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 16:00.

The clinic provides chronic disease management, HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and tuberculosis (TB) services, antenatal care, family planning, maternal and child healthcare, mental health services and Central Chronic Medicine Dispensing and Distribution (CCMDD).

During her keynote address, Mazibuko emphasised the importance of bringing healthcare services closer to communities.

“Don’t forget to put a patient charter in this clinic. To the people who can’t go to Sebokeng Hospital and Kopanong Hospital, here is a clinic for you, closer to your homes,” she said.

Mako welcomed the facility, highlighting the importance of investing in public healthcare.

“Improvement of health infrastructure reflects our commitment to strengthening healthcare services and improving the wellbeing of our communities,” he said.

Sedibeng District Executive Mayor Cllr Lerato Maloka also attended the opening.

The programme, directed by Brian Motaung, featured messages of support from Acting Chief Director Siyabonga Jikwana, Acting Director of Clinical Services Disebo Pepenene, Clinic Committee representative Zakhele Gumede, labour union representative Dumisani Dlamini and MMC for Health and Social Development Cllr Makgala Lesooane.

The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting, plaque unveiling and a walkabout of the new facility.
