De Deur SAPS leads door-to-door campaign to combat GBV

On 5 August, De Deur SAPS, in close collaboration with Siyabangena Patrollers and Community Patrollers, conducted a well-coordinated door-to-door awareness campaign in Rus-Ter-Vaal and Ramaphosa.

The main goal of this impactful initiative was to educate the community on the serious issue of gender-based violence (GBV). Residents were informed about what constitutes GBV, how to report crimes against women and children, and the severe consequences of such acts.

During the campaign, police discovered and shut down an illegal shebeen in Ramaphosa. The confiscated alcohol was booked at De Deur SAPS. Community members were also made aware of the support services available to victims. Women and children were strongly encouraged to break the silence, speak out, and report any abuse.

The importance of reporting GBV incidents regardless of one’s relationship to the victim was also emphasized.

Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Anver Hammond wishes all women a safe and happy Women’s Month, urging everyone to stand firm against GBV by reporting perpetrators and sharing their stories.
