Savanna City Football Academy appeals for support to upgrade sports facilities
In an impassioned plea for assistance, Cargo Topisi, the chairman and founder of Savanna City Football Academy has called upon the community, parents and local businesses to rally behind their cause to secure safer and improved sports facilities for their young athletes.
At present, the team utilises a field located between pocket 1 and pocket 2. However, it presents significant challenges as it is surrounded by residential housing and lies adjacent to a busy road where vehicles often speed by. This poses a safety hazard for young athletes, particularly those in the under 9, 11 and 13 age groups, who may not always be vigilant of passing cars. Therefore, the academy’s pressing need for a new field stems from a paramount concern for the safety and well-being of its players.
For some time now, the academy has been diligently reaching out to the councillor and municipality advocating for the allocation of resources to enhance the safety and quality of their training grounds. Speaking on behalf of the academy, Topisi also emphasized the critical need for proper sports equipment, particularly soccer balls and training gear.
He told Walkerville & Savanna City Times: “As an academy deeply committed to the holistic development of our young athletes, we recognize the significance of having adequate facilities and equipment. These resources are not only essential for their physical training but also contribute to their overall well-being and development of the players.”
The academy, which boasts an impressive track record of achievements, including clinching titles such as the Under 13 and Senior Team Champions of the Midvaal Pre-season League Cup, Under 13 Midvaal Heritage Cup,and securing third position in the Under 15s Mayoral’s Cup does not only foster sporting excellence but also prioritizes academic pursuits and instills values such as discipline, hard work, leadership, and accountability among its members.
“We firmly believe in shaping well-rounded individuals who excel both on and off the field,” Topisi added.
The academy appeals to potential sponsors and offers prominent branding opportunities on their kits as a gesture of gratitude. The community is urged to join hands in supporting the academy’s mission to provide a conducive environment for nurturing sporting talent and academic excellence.
