14 Zimbabwean suspects arrested for illicit gold processing in Eikenhof
Fourteen suspects, aged between 26 and 51, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 15 August. They were arrested for illicit gold processing in Eikenhof.
They are facing charges connected to the operation of illegal gold processing facilities in Eikenhof. The arrests were made on Tuesday, 13 August, after a coordinated operation by authorities, prompted by numerous community complaints about these unlawful activities.
The suspects, all Zimbabwean nationals, will be charged with illegal possession of unwrought precious metals, as well as violations of the Immigration Act and Environmental Act.
