Six killed in horror crash on R42 near Meyerton

Six people, including a three-year-old child, have tragically lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision between a white Ford Focus and a truck on the R42 Meyerton–Heidelberg road on Monday afternoon.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 15:30 on 14 July, confirmed Meyerton SAPS spokesperson Constable Zazini.

Zazini said: “Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Sadly, all six occupants of the Ford Focus were declared dead on arrival. This includes three women, two men and a child. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.”

According to preliminary investigations, it is believed that the Ford Focus was attempting to overtake the truck when the driver lost control, resulting in a catastrophic head-on impact. The bodies were transported to Sebokeng Mortuary for post-mortem examinations as investigations continue. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.

Police are once again urging motorists to prioritise road safety, especially along the R42, a route that has seen a troubling number of fatal crashes in recent years.
