Walkerville lights up with thrilling Deep South pool nights
What started as a casual idea among four pool enthusiasts has blossomed into one of Walkerville’s most exciting weekly gatherings.
Every Wednesday night, the Deep South Pub Pool Tournament draws players from across the region, creating a spirited blend of competition, camaraderie and community pride. The format is simple yet thrilling: players rotate between pubs, challenging local talent at each venue. With a modest R50 buy-in and a winner-takes-all prize, the stakes add excitement without overshadowing the event’s true spirit-fun and friendship.
From its humble beginnings, the tournament now attracts up to 18 players each week. More than just matches, the nights have become a chance to share tips, learn new tricks and enjoy the vibrant social atmosphere.
Looking ahead, the Deep South Pub players are preparing for their next stop in Henley, with new venues joining as interest continues to grow. Organisers are also exploring the creation of a formal league, aiming to position Walkerville as a hub for cue sports in the region.
Adding to the excitement, once a month players compete in Speedball a fast-paced variation designed to sharpen cue skills and enhance gameplay. Above all, the tournament proves how a simple game of pool can connect people, strengthen community bonds and offer everyone – seasoned players and newcomers alike a chance to join in on the fun.
