De Deur SAPS promotes school safety

More than 1 700 learners at De Deur Laerskool participated in a school safety awareness programme on 3 August.

The programme, conducted by De Deur SAPS, reached learners in the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior phases and focused on responsible behaviour, personal safety and respect for others.

Learners were reminded of their rights and responsibilities and encouraged to follow the school’s code of conduct. They were also urged to report all forms of bullying and abuse.

“The main objective of the talk was to promote school safety, educate learners on the harmful effects of bullying and encourage respect for one another,” DeDeur Cooperate Communication Officer Mampho Mahlomola said.

The session also addressed the dangers of vaping and the health risks associated with nicotine addiction.

Online safety formed another important part of the programme. Learners were educated about cyberbullying, online predators, scams and the risks of sharing personal information on social media.

The importance of parental guidance when children access online platforms was also emphasised.

Police warned learners that failing to comply with the school’s code of conduct could have serious consequences and encouraged them to make responsible choices both at school and online.

A total of 1 713 learners took part in the awareness programme.
