Savanna FC earns SAB League promotion

Savanna FC will compete in the SAB League from next season after securing promotion through the SAFA Sedibeng Men’s Regional League inter-regional playoffs.

The achievement marks an important step forward for the team, which will now prepare to compete at a higher level when the new season gets underway in September.

During the Group B playoffs, Savanna opened their campaign with an impressive 5-1 victory over Tshwaranang before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Vaal Inter. Despite the loss, Savanna finished at the top of Group B on goal difference, with all three teams ending on three points.

Coach Simon Masilela welcomed the achievement and praised his players for the commitment they have shown throughout their journey.

“We are very proud to have qualified to play in the SAB League next season. It has taken a lot of hard work, determination and sacrifice from the boys to reach this point, and now we have an opportunity to test ourselves at a higher level,” said Masilela.

The promotion comes after a demanding season in which Savanna FC continued to push towards its goal of moving up the football ranks.

Masilela also called on residents to rally behind the team as they prepare for their new challenge.

“We are pleading with the community to get behind our boys and give them all the support they need. Playing in the SAB League will be a new challenge for us, and having the community behind the team will mean a lot.”

The coach also expressed his appreciation to Walkerville & Savanna City Times for consistently following the team’s progress and keeping the community informed about their journey.

With the new SAB League season expected to begin in September, Savanna FC will now turn its attention to preparations as the club looks to build on its success and make its mark at the next level.
