Career expo opens healthcare pathways for Sharpeville learners

Learners at Mohlodi Secondary School in Sharpeville were introduced to a range of healthcare careers during a Career Expo hosted by the Therapeutic Services Team.

The initiative aimed to broaden learners’ understanding of opportunities within the health sector while helping them make more informed decisions about their future studies and career paths.

During the expo, learners received information about professions including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, audiology and optometry.

A representative from the Therapeutic Services Team said the expo was aimed at helping learners see the possibilities available to them within healthcare.

“Career guidance plays an important role in helping young people understand the opportunities available to them and make informed choices about their future. We want learners to know that healthcare offers a wide range of careers where they can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” the representative said.

The programme also placed emphasis on the link between health, wellbeing and personal development.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture engaged learners through indigenous games designed to promote physical activity, recreation and teamwork, while Health Promotion officials provided education on healthy lifestyles and informed health choices.

The initiative formed part of efforts to expose young people to career opportunities they may not ordinarily encounter while also encouraging them to take an active interest in their health and wellbeing.
