Midvaal installs 112 streetlights in Savanna City to improve safety
Midvaal Local Municipality has installed 112 new streetlights in Savanna City, in a move aimed at improving safety and visibility in the area.
Poor lighting has long been a concern for residents, with dark streets making it easier for crime to take place at night. The municipality says the new lights are part of efforts to respond to these challenges and make public spaces safer.
The project began in October 2025 and was completed at a cost of R1 million.
Executive mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira said improving lighting is one of the practical steps the municipality is taking to address safety concerns.
“This investment is about making our communities safer and ensuring residents can move around with greater peace of mind, especially at night,” he said.
Beyond safety, the improved lighting is also expected to help residents move more easily in the evenings, including those returning from work or school.
Midvaal says it will continue rolling out similar infrastructure projects as part of its broader plan to strengthen service delivery and improve everyday living conditions
