Seven linked to Emfuleni fraud case appear in court
Seven suspects linked to an alleged fraud, theft and essential infrastructure tampering case involving the Emfuleni Local Municipality are expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August.
The court appearance follows two additional arrests made by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday morning, August 23.
According to police, the latest suspects are employees attached to the municipality’s Revenue and Electricity Department.
Their arrests brought the total number of people arrested in connection with the investigation to seven.
The case centres on allegations of fraud, theft and tampering with essential infrastructure within the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
SAPS said the arrests form part of an ongoing investigation, with all seven suspects expected to appear in court on August 24.
Police have not yet disclosed the individual roles allegedly played by each suspect or the full value of the alleged losses.
The court appearance is expected to provide further details on the charges facing the suspects and the next steps in the case.
