Spelling bee and gaming bring learning to life in Midvaal

Midvaal Libraries took reading and learning into schools and community spaces through National Book Week activities held from 9 to 11 September.

Grade 5 learners at Meyerton Primary School tested their vocabulary and concentration in a spelling competition on 9 September, with their peers cheering them on.

The programme continued at Sicelo Library on 10 September, where an e-gaming tournament challenged young participants’ strategy, focus and gaming skills.

On 11 September, a pop-up library at Riverstone Mall gave shoppers an opportunity to browse books, engage with library staff and discover available resources and services.

“Midvaal Libraries remains committed to promoting literacy and cultivating a culture of reading while embracing new and innovative ways of engaging the community,” said Midvaal Executive Mayor Ald Peter Teixeira.

The activities combined traditional literacy with digital engagement, giving young people different ways to participate while introducing residents to library services beyond library buildings.
