Midvaal mayor to launch Buang Batjha campaign in Lakeside
Midvaal Local Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Ald Peter Teixeira, will launch a weekly engagement campaign with the youth named Buang Batjha on 3 May at the Lakeside Estates Community Hall.
Buang Batjha, which translates to ‘the youth speak’, is a campaign initiative led by Texeira aiming to actively involve young people in discussions surrounding the pressing issues they face.
“Young people will have the opportunity to present solutions to the socio-economic challenges they face, such as poverty, substance abuse, and unemployment,” Mayor Texeira elaborated.
The listening campaign will be run in all the Municipality’s 15 wards until the end of June 2023.
Public engagements will be conducted every Wednesday at 17h00 in a different Ward until all areas have been covered.
Texeira added: “We encourage young people to take advantage of this opportunity to come and engage us. Listening to our people is non-negotiable. The youth are the leaders of tomorrow, it is imperative that they have a voice in the country’s future and development.”
