Suspects arrested selling a Pangolin in Walkerville

On the evening of Monday, 29 May, Walkerville Sector 2 Community Police, Midvaal Peace Officers and Green Scorpions arrested three men who were attempting to sell a Pangolin – an endagered species.

The teams were following up on information about suspects arranging to sell a Pangolin.

“Information on the suspects and vehicle was received at short notice and members responded to the location. When the suspect’s vehicle entered the parking area and was confirmed, a tactical take down was safely executed. Three suspects were questioned and a bag containing a live Pangolin was found in the vehicle. Suspects were detained for further investigations,” said Sector 2’s Ivan Parkes.

The Pangolin was collected by a Wild Life Vet Hospital in Midrand for safe keeping and medical care.

Parkes added: “We were informed that the Pangolin was a young female, full of ticks. The prognosis looks positive that she will survive. Thank you to everyone for once again saving our precious biodiversity.”
