Midvaal and Brightstone Academy join forces to train youth in construction
Midvaal Local Municipality has announced a new partnership with Brightstone Academy to train 50 young people from the area in a National Certificate in Building and Civil Construction.
This initiative stems from extensive stakeholder engagements and aligns with the municipality’s commitment to youth empowerment through programmes such as Buang Batjha and the Youth Summit Programme.
Initially, Midvaal youth were not included in this training programme. However, due to persistent engagement, provisions were made to allocate 50 spots specifically for young people from the municipality.
The 12-month learnership is accredited by Construction SETA and is delivered in partnership with Nghwazi Hugo Holdings (PTY) LTD. Midvaal Local Municipality will support the initiative by providing training venues and exploring opportunities for practical placements to ensure hands-on experience for the learners.
“Our vision is to see these learners successfully complete their training and transition into the workforce, establish cooperatives, or start their own businesses,” said the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Peter Teixeira.
With a youth unemployment rate of 45%, Midvaal remains dedicated to creating opportunities for young people. The municipality will continue engaging stakeholders across various sectors to address socio-economic challenges affecting both the community and the country. This initiative underscores Midvaal’s commitment to service excellence and sustainable development for its youth.
Issued by the Office of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Peter Teixeira.
