October 22, 2026

A 45-year-old man was arrested following a suspected livestock theft incident in Meyerton during the early hours of Monday, 19 October, in an operation that resulted in the recovery of 26 goats and eight sheep.

According to Meyerton SAPS Communication Officer Cst Nompumelelo Zazini, security personnel received information at approximately 02:40 about suspects moving sheep through a farm.

Charl van der Watt responded after receiving a call from one of his security guards and alerted additional responders, including a drone operator.

The search led teams to an open field between Golf Park and Henley-on-Klip, near Mimosa Street, where five men were allegedly spotted with livestock.

The suspects reportedly fled on foot, but one was apprehended by Van der Watt and handed over to Meyerton SAPS.

Authorities recovered 26 goats and eight sheep, while one goat had reportedly been slaughtered.

Preliminary investigations linked the stolen livestock to a property near the R551.

Zazini appealed to members of the public to assist police with their ongoing investigation.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward and report it to Meyerton SAPS. Information provided could assist police in their ongoing investigation,” said Zazini.

The operation involved Meyerton SAPS, the Midvaal Law Enforcement Unit, AfriForum, Afriguard and Sekuriteit Sonder Grense.

The suspect was detained as police continued investigating the incident.
