United against crime: Meyerton SAPS strengthens ties with Sector Forum in Kookrus

On 2 June, the Meyerton SAPS hosted its monthly Sector Forum meeting in Kookrus, led by Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Johan De Winnaar and his Vispol management team.

Joined by Sector Manager Warrant Officer Gavin van Heerden and Social Crime Prevention Coordinator Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, the meeting focused on current crime trends impacting the community and practical solutions to address them.

Lt Col De Winnaar addressed ongoing challenges, including disruptions to the station’s Telkom landline, and provided the forum with the direct cellphone number for the Client Service Centre.

He assured residents that service delivery remains a top priority: “We will pull all available resources to ensure our policing efforts continue without interruption,” he said.

Zazini encouraged stronger collaboration between the police and community: “Fighting crime isn’t the police’s responsibility alone. Together with residents, we can build a safer Meyerton,” she said.

Concerns about limited sector vehicles were also raised, but De Winnaar reassured the forum that patrols and targeted operations will continue to clamp down on criminal activity.

The meeting was attended by the Ward 3 Cllr, who expressed her commitment to work closely with the community and SAPS, saying she welcomes invitations to initiatives aimed at enhancing safety in the area.

Residents also shared suggestions on how they can assist SAPS, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation to tackle crime head-on.
