Walkerville’s Smash to battle Nigeria’s Solomon Olamiposi for WBC Africa flyweight title

Walkerville’s boxing powerhouse Simangele “Smash” Hadebe is gearing up to fight for the vacant WBC Africa female flyweight title on Saturday, 30 August, at the Kagiso Memorial and Recreation Centre in Krugersdorp.

The highly anticipated 10-round clash will pit her against Nigerian contender Solomon Olamiposi in what promises to be an electrifying showdown. The event, billed as a celebration of Women’s Month, is presented by Thanya Boxing Promotions in partnership with Honey Bee Promotions, ZBashy Promotions and Xaba Promotions.

It forms part of a broader initiative to showcase world-class boxing while championing women’s sport. Hadebe, holding a record of 14 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws, is the reigning Abu and South African champion. Her decorated career includes multiple accolades such as Prospect of the Year in 2018 and 2019, Boxer of the Year in 2023 and a finalist nomination for the GSport Awards Sportswoman of the Year in 2023. She currently holds the title of Boxer of the Year.

Her manager, Colleen McAusland, expressed unwavering confidence ahead of the bout: “Smash is ready for this moment. She has put in the work and has the heart of a true champion. I believe she will make South Africa proud.”
