Cause4Paws appeals for urgent help to fight animal cruelty in Jackson
Animal cruelty in Jackson’s township is worsening daily, leaving local welfare organisation Cause4Paws led by René Parker and Wisdom Chigayo, heartbroken and overwhelmed.
In recent weeks, the team has dealt with harrowing cases. A female dog was brought in with broken legs, a snapped spine, and panga wounds so severe that she had to be euthanised. A mother cat was beaten to death and dumped in the rubbish with her kittens, who are now being bottle-fed every two hours by volunteers. In another shocking incident, children reportedly set their large dogs on a smaller dog and hurled rocks at him when he refused to fight back.
Despite the team’s desperate efforts, the dog had to be humanely put down while looking into the eyes of his rescuer. The cruelty doesn’t stop there. Recently, a dog arrived with horrific foot injuries, believed to be from a snare. He is now receiving treatment and care. At the same time, Cause4Paws is battling outbreaks of parvovirus and biliary, adding further strain to already limited resources. René and Wisdom say the need for support has become urgent.
They are appealing for assistance with veterinary bills, medications, food, and staff support. Donations of food and blankets can also be dropped off at local veterinary clinics, including Hennie Alberts Vet, Brackenhurst Vet, Kibler Park Vet, and Orion Vet.They urge all pet owners to vaccinate, deworm, and treat their animals for ticks and fleas to prevent further suffering.
“This work breaks our hearts every day. But with the community’s support, we can continue to fight for the animals who cannot fight for themselves,” said Parker.
